The ninth largest city and the county seat of Benton County, is Bentonville. It's known as the birthplace of the retailer Walmart. It is one of the four main cities in the four-county Northwest Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is ranked 109th in terms of population in the United States with 463,204 in 2010 according to the United States Census Bureau. As of 2016 Bentonville had a population of 47,093.
The downtown community of Bentonville features the Walmart Museum, which includes founder Sam Walton’s original five-and-dime store. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art displays work from the colonial era to the present. Its sprawling grounds include forest trails, sculpture gardens and waterside pavilions. The Scott Family Amazeum offers hands-on science and art exhibits.
